Bahamas recovery begins as Hurricane Dorian heads to Florida and other states
The ruins littered for kilometres and flooded most of the Bahamas, in the aftermath of Cyclone Dorian, in events described by the island group's prime minister as one of the worst disasters in the region.
Emergency workers made strenuous efforts to reach the victims as search and rescue operations continued on Wednesday, and the scale of the damage and the humanitarian crisis became clear.
\"We are in the midst of one of the worst public crises in the history of our country... We will spare no effort or resources.'
Media reported today that some of the victims of the cyclone are still stuck on the roofs waiting for their rescuers. The death toll has reached seven and is expected to rise in the coming days.
'We expect more deaths to be recorded.' This is just preliminary information.'
Dorian retreated to a category 2 storm on the Five-degree Savir-Simpson scale.
Meteorologists predicted that the hurricane would dangerously approach the east coast of Florida on Wednesday, and orders were issued to evacuate the area from more than a million people.
The National Hurricane Center said Dorian was accompanied by winds of 165 kilometers per hour and was moving north and northwest at 12 kilometers per hour, about 144 kilometers east of Daytona Beach in Fleury.
